A client of mine needed editing on a wedding video he had recorded using a mobile phone. He was looking for someone who could stabilize the video, reduce background noise, and do it with quick turnaround. I presented him with several options and he chose Dennis. The feedback in the following review is his, edited by me for brevity:

"I picked Dennis for a couple reasons. First, that he clearly had experience with video stabilization and audio noise reduction. And second was that I felt like most of the other freelancers were underbidding but Dennis was charging what I felt was a reasonable rate for the work of a fellow professional, in fact an amount that would be not be out of place for someone based out of New York or San Francisco to charge, and I was happy to pay that. I also hoped that charging a high rate meant his service would be more professional.

The good news is that the quality of Dennis’s work was very good. I was very pleased with his work stabilizing the video and, while I wound up sending him a replacement audio track from which I’d removed the worst artifacts using some specialized software that I have, his overall noise reduction work was well-done, and I felt good about his formatting and editing choices. He was very receptive to my notes and executed them well.

Dennis’s communication, on the other hand, left me very frustrated. My admin had explained to Dennis up front that I was going to be traveling for work and potentially slow to respond. However, pretty much immediately after he delivered the first draft of the videos, he began badgering me for notes and for my admin to release payment via PPH, sending us combined at least 3–4 messages a day. The same process repeated after he sent me the updated videos.

I offer this feedback in a spirit of good will and as a fellow freelancer. I hope nothing more than that Dennis builds a thriving and successful video editing business—he clearly has the skills, experience, and motivation necessary to succeed here. But I was very frustrated by my experience working with Dennis and I would not do business with him again."

I will add that Dennis' profile lists his location as Alabama, USA, but his invoice indicated he is in Nairobi, Kenya. Neither of us were bothered by his real location but messages received from him on Sunday afternoon Pacific time saying YOU SAID YOU'D REPLY BY MONDAY AND YOU HAVEN'T were (to be generous) bewildering.

First, about my location, I don’t know how it changed to Alabama USA, I have contacted Peopleperhour concerning the same but it has not been fruitful. Also, you’re leaving out the fact that, you weren’t responding to my email, I had to contact peopleperhour customer support to assist me reach you. However, am happy my work was up to your standards, I deliver quality work, hence the 5 star reviews on my profile. I apologize if you found my emails bothering to you. I was doing my best to reach out to you and ensure we complete the project on time as stated in the project description.
